delicately decorated in filigree work with twisted gold threads depicting phoenixes and snakes, alternating with three oval cartouches set with hornbill panels ornately carved in high relief with peony and chrysanthemum sprays, fitted ivory box carved with quatrefoil cartouches depicting figures amongst pavilions

Condition
The hornbill plaques are in overall good condition with some losses. The rich vermillion-red colour of the hornbill has faded to a faint caramel-brown tone. The high relief gold filigree decoration on one of the phoenix heads is depressed by impact force. The ends of the ivory box are detached, with one top piece and one bottom piece missing. The lock is slightly dislocated.
