of rounded elongated form supported on an oval foot, with a curved rim forming the spout on one side opposite a lion mask projecting a hoop handle, carved through the layers of cinnabar lacquer with a continuous figural landscape of jagged rocks arboured with verdant trees against a floral-diaper ground, one side depicting two scholars conversing on a rocky promontory, the other with a scholar painting on a cliff-face, the foot incised with a key-fret band, the interior and the base lacquered black
