modelled after archaic bronze form, robustly potted with two broad oval facets tapering towards a tall flared foot of oval section, the two main sides moulded with a raised panel with a slight indentation in the centre, the broad shoulders set on the narrow sides with a pair of parrots forming the handles, their high-relief bodies attached to the shoulders at the beak, feet and tail, all surmounted by a tall columnar neck collared at the base with a ring, applied overall with a deep cobalt-blue glaze, the interior and base left white, the base further inscribed with a six-character reign mark in underglaze blue

Condition
The vase is in overall very good condition with only a few occasional light scratches on the glaze. The colour has been well controlled during the firing and the glaze is even throughout. The actual colour is consistent with the catalogue illustration.

雍正、乾隆年間，製作了一批復古瓷器，兩位皇帝對古器物的鍾愛與鑑賞，引發靈感創造擬古形飾之瓷器。此件霽藍釉扁壺依循漢代古青銅器及陶器風格，典雅簡樸，即屬這批作品之一。
雍正年製器形相同尺寸較小之例，成為乾隆年間的參考範例。一件雍正粉青釉作例，現藏北京故宮博物院，錄於《故宮珍藏康雍乾瓷器圖錄》，香港，1989年，頁273，圖版102，可資比較。另有一雍正年製茶葉末釉之例，屬 Salting 氏遺贈之物，現藏倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館，錄於 John Ayers，《Far Eastern Ceramics in the Victoria and Albert Museum》，倫敦，1980年，圖版216。
同器形且釉色如此湛藍顯眼之例十分罕見，然一相似較小作例，曾兩度於蘇富比售出，先是倫敦1977年3月29日，編號285，後為紐約1981年11月6日，編號315，近期再度於紐約佳士得2011年3月24日售出，編號1147，屬 Gordon 舊藏。尚有一器，於倫敦蘇富比售出，日期為1974年4月1/2日，編號277。還可比較一窰變釉之例，尺寸略小，蓋上臥神獸，落乾隆款，出處同上，頁450，圖版132。
有一件漢代饕餮紋雙耳青銅扁壺，乃清代瓷器靈感來源，錄於《故宮博物院藏文物珍品全集．青銅生活器》，香港，2006年，圖版47。另一例屬 Alfred Chapin Rogers 家族收藏，售於紐約蘇富比1974年10月17/18日，編號271，邊緣略凹處若彎月，環抱花式橢圓腹，此紋飾較常見於瓷器。請亦參考一漢代陶瓶，同取此形，肩上綴雙耳，錄於《漢代の美術》，東京，1975年，圖版78。饒富趣味的是，清代工匠準確地仿製了古器之形，而其創意則表現在鳥形耳上。此雖為後代新創，但卻也呼應了鳥類在漢代的重要性。
