陳其寬憑其妙想天開的構圖、異於常規的創作技巧，為文人傳統帶來新鮮的概念。陳其寬受訓為建築師，曾與包浩斯（Bauhaus）建築風格大師華特‧葛羅培斯（Walter Gropius），以及著名建築師貝聿銘工作；作為畫家，他擅於以創新的視野描繪自然景物，同時又保留了傳統水墨的美學特色。《谷》中遠處地平線的巧妙配置，加上觸目的鮮明色彩，呈現出水墨畫的獨特觀感。
