韓國藝術家林曉丹曾於二〇〇一年假KT&G Sangsangmadang 畫廊舉辦個展〈熱帶雨林〉，就其個展，林曉丹闡釋了她對於探索現代社會中人類那鼓與生俱來、面對其他實體如動物所產生的優越感特別感興趣。那些因應社會的急速奏而衍生的，有如機器般的速度以及冷漠無情的表現，對藝術家而言，這些反應一方面可被視作「一個人的強烈生存意慾」，卻同時是「具有諷刺意味的死亡呼號」，藝術家則試圖透過她的近作表現這兩個極端之間的矛盾與差異。具體來說，藝術家所探索的正是畫中那股任性的力量與一個人試圖在極端外在環境下尋求一和平與安逸的能力。出生於一九八五年，林曉丹代表了韓國八十年代以後出生年輕一代的畫家，她的創作專注探討先進技術與工具對當代社會人類生存條件的影響。她曾於首爾國民大學修讀美術，除繪畫外同時擅於從紀錄片、外遊及日常散步時所拍的快拍中取材，呈現人的心境。
二〇一 一年創作的《城市花園》描繪一個看似深夜的場景：眼下是各種正在茁壯成長的植物，各種各類的花草樹木舖蓋了底層的黑漆。觀乎林曉丹對現世社會的迷戀，一字排開秀長的花朵和樹幹恰巧令人聯想到城市的天際 — 那片明亮閃爍的夜空。作品為觀眾展示了如何運用其謹慎仔細的繪畫功力巧妙地發揮「負空間」的概念，明確地展示明暗之間的分冶。她以大膽的筆觸勾畫樹枝和花瓣，同時在畫的頂層舖上精細淋漓的黑色油漆，顏料的流動正好回應及彰顯人類與其周邊環境之間最赤裸的本質，同時跟畫中整個城市面貌形成了一個有趣的對比。
