一條平坦寬闊的大路直沖向剛剛被拆除的西直門老門樓的方向，遠處幾棟高樓廣廈幾近融化在夕陽浪漫的榮輝之中，在那個摩天大樓尚不存在于中國人現實生活的年代裡，這幾棟理想大廈突兀、荒誕地霸佔了老門樓原本佇立的地方。趙剛這幅創作於1978-1979年的作品《無題》，動機正是由藝術家親歷改革開放初期“二環路”的改造而來的。突然間易變的日常景觀造成了超載而異樣的心理反差，在超現實的心理體驗下，趙剛臆造出了這一幅飄蕩著空洞的浪漫主義氣息的海市蜃樓，也深刻地洞穿了一場變革的實質與內涵，造就了一幅名副其實的都市暗寓言。作為“星星畫會”最年輕的成員，這件《無題》是趙剛在十八歲時創作的作品，比起“星星畫會”團體中其他成員鮮明強烈的“掙脫”姿態，趙剛的藝術思維則更為超前與開放，並對“改變”有著一種年輕人天性中的敏感與投射在潛意識中的預示。這件作品一貫被視為“星星畫會”時期趙剛的典型代表作品，並在當時多次參加了於張偉家舉辦的“公寓藝術展”。
