Condition
This work is in very good condition. There is a stretcher mark along the top edge of the work and a brown accretion 1 cm in length along the right edge, 10 cm from the top edge of the work. There is no evidence of restoration under UV.

七○年代，趙無極開始在法蘭西畫廊（Galerie de France）舉行定期展覽，此時的他在創作上寄情水墨，思想則寄托於道家的逍遙自在之境，其作品意象空靈，似乎每幅都是他締造的世界，供人寄託精神，放開懷抱，稀釋的顏料帶有淡墨般的透明質感，色彩純淨清浥，產生煙水迷離的溫潤效果，靜麗可掬。法國桂冠詩人亨利．米修自一九五二年後，此時亦再次為趙無極執筆寫序。這位相識多年的老友，見證藝術家赴法以來的探索，深入理解他的生活與創作經歷，他敏銳地發現趙無極的轉變，而《21.7.73》亦正如米修在序中所說：
「趙無極丟開了具體形象，然而，他畫中有個大自然，給人親切之感。彼乎哉？此乎哉？是耶？非耶？然而莫知其意。面目全非，若隱還現，大塊的色彩下蘊含著大自然。自然，熱烈，沸騰，熔岩般熾熱，卻又依然柔靜。不怪異離奇，不撲朔迷離，而是流暢、明快，如煦煦陽光在閃爍；不見樹木，不見溪流，既無森林，也無山丘，惟有卷風、震顫、噴發、奔放、洪流和五彩縯紛的混沌，在擴大、在飛升、在飄逸……」在此作品中，藝術家以畫布為天地，讓自已和觀眾一同投入其中，悠然徜徉。
