Condition
The work is overall in very good condition. There is one slight paint loss on the top middle area, minor ware in the bottom left corner and very slight abrasions along the upper right border. There are some slight undulations on the middle left area. There is no evidence of restoration under UV light.

「朱德群的繪畫是深淵,是時間的喘息,是動態的詩,其形式好像來自精神的高度集中,為的是與觀眾的眼光對視……在朱德群的繪畫中,深度浮上表面,對立趨向統一。」法國藝評家皮耶.卡班以精研近現代大師飲譽西方,而朱德群則是他唯一以專著論述的亞洲代表,這段有關朱德群1959年作品的評論,正適用於該年完成的《構圖No.19─映夜之光》。
朱德群在1956年受史塔耶爾(Nicolas de Staël)回顧展啟發,開始轉向抽象繪畫,儘管如此,他的創作從起步即充滿個性與東方本色。《構圖No.19─映夜之光》展現藝術家積貯多年的書法功力,其線條有如無鋒重劍,大巧不工,構成左右基本對稱之局,色調渾樸厚重,在深棕與玄黑交疊之間,白光從正中乍現,透視感極佳,而寶石方塊則如午夜瑪瑙般深邃閃耀,如此方正之布局,使得氣勢淵渟嶽峙,但線條在揮灑之間,由正中向四方八面張開,產生強大動感。
《構圖No.19─映夜之光》是朱德群進入抽象創作之後,首批尺幅超過一米的作品,除了因為藝術家甫於巴黎歐巴威畫廊(Galerie du Haut-Pavé)完成個展,經濟上足以承擔較大畫室,亦反應了他經歷數載鑽研,對於抒情抽象的掌握更具自信,可以應付大幅作品。本作可視為抽象風景,但從其布局看來,更似藝術家自敍心境,在漫長摸索之中初見曙光,光源盡處,便是出路之所在。
