在歐洲遊歴了四分之一個世紀的華人藝術家蘇笑柏，在2002年重新進入自身的東方文化，在形式上探索漆藝在當代藝術的可能性。他以一種更圓融的態度去面對自己的傳統，同時回應外部世界，因而孕育了既承續傳統氣韻、東方精神、又富時代新意的藝術。《喝采》表現出如1950年代美國風行的「硬邊藝術」的特質，幾何圖形與大塊的色面有清晰工整的邊緣，構成了無「圖」與「地」之分的二度空間畫面。在東西匯流的時代，藝術家突破二元，找尋自己的出路，這一具有東方意境的硬邊藝術，可說是蘇笑柏匯融心緣最精湛的表現。
