拍品資料及來源

The miniature on this box is based primarily on Alexander Roslin's 1776 portrait of the empress now in the State Hermitage Museum. The state ordered numerous copies of this important allegorical portrait and it would have been well known to members of Russia's nobility. While the miniaturist has not been identified, the skill with which Catherine was represented suggests that the painter had access to the original canvases or one of the early parade portraits created after it.
