Condition

STRUCTURE The canvas has been lined. PAINT SURFACE The painting appears to be in good condition, with no apparent extant damage or loss of paint. ULTRAVIOLET Examination under ultraviolet light reveals scattered retouching, particularly in the sky, and infilling to craquelure. There also appears to be an older campaign of retouching in the sails of the main ship. The restoration appears to be minor and there are no apparent signs of significant damage to the picture. FRAME Held in a carved and gilded British Baroque style frame.
