在2006年巴塞爾鐘錶展上，百達翡麗首次推出5104型號腕錶，堪稱曠世之作。同品牌經典的5002型號高複雜功能腕錶相似，5104型號同樣採用43毫米直徑加大錶盤設計，但風格更加大膽、奔放，顛覆了大眾對品牌設計傳統、低調的固有印象，標新立異。此型號之設計立意於鐘錶藏家及愛好者對現代腕錶的訴求，通過錶盤、錶殼乃至錶背全景展現機芯，凸顯高複雜機芯結構的視覺震撼，帶給佩戴者前所未有的全新體驗。在製造過程中，百達翡麗以創新技術應對重重挑戰，技驚四座，亦收穫一項新專利。腕錶完美外觀的呈現，皆源自精益求精的追求——百達翡麗一直不懈尋求更為精簡美觀的方式以顯示星期、月份、月相盈虧及閏年等眾多複雜功能。在鐘錶業，製造鏤空機芯腕錶的一個普遍問題是如何讓各項功能排列有序且清晰易讀。就此百達翡麗研發了一項新技術，即將藍寶石與鋼材質融合，構成透視佈景，以此襯托各項功能顯示。為著重表現透明機芯的顏色組合，品牌選用粉紅金機芯材質與鉑金錶殼和諧搭配，賦予腕錶視覺層次及色彩對比。因製作工藝繁複，直至2012年，此型號仍是品牌唯一製造的鏤空機芯高複雜功能錶款。這獨一無二的腕錶不僅功能強大，亦質量上乘，其三問報時簧音相較於品牌其它三問錶款，更加清澈宏亮。
