爭名聒噪日飛揚，攪盡寒煙漠漠荒。太息月明三匝樹，古來斷送幾周郎。
嘗見徐文長題其所畫〈寒鴉圖〉，有句云：「莫學曹瞒三匝樹，漢陽江上有周郎。」余嫌其中含芒刺，未免陰符殺機火於樹發矣，戲為更易此作，老阜左手並識。
鈐印：「高鳳翰印」、「三昧」、「爾亭」、「丁巳殘人」。

The clamor for fame and fortune flares up every day, but once the cold mist dissipates there is only a desolate wasteland. I sigh deeply in moonlight at the thrice-circled tree: in history how many Zhou Yus have passed away unrecognized? I have seen an inscription by Xu Wenchang (Xu Wei, 1521-1593) on his own painting of Crows in the Cold, containing the following line: 'Do not circle trees as Cao Man wrote. There is a Zhou Yu on the Hanyang River.' I suspect that it contains a sarcastic barb, inviting the 'murderous intention' described in the Yinfujing like fire starting on a tree. I have thus playfully altered his original in this work. Inscribed by Left-handed Laofu.
