the ovoid body supported on a short foot, surmounted by a cylindrical neck with a pointed spout, the handle formed from a chilong clambering up to the rim, painted with four medallions, each formed from two confronted butterflies enclosing a foliate floral spray between, all interspersed with further floral sprays, the decoration framed between stiff plantain leaves, foliate scroll, ruyi, lappet and classic scroll bands, inscribed at the base with an apocryphal six-character Xuande mark within a double-circle
Condition
There are some possible restored rim chips. The rim has a discoloured burst glaze bubble (0.2cm) near the spout and several others on the other side of the spout. The left leg of the chilong handle has a 0.5cm firing crack. There is a burst glaze bubble to one of the butterflies on the body. The glaze is suffused with bubbles. Apart from other minor firing imperfections, the ewer is in general good condition.
