- Huanghuali wood
each with a curving crest rail terminating in everted handgrips, above a bowed backsplat, carved with a stylised ruyi-shaped medallion and flanked by narrow shaped-flange brackets, with soft cane seat and moulded seat frame, on circular legs joined by shaped aprons and foot stretchers

Condition
The chairs are in good condition with the exception of loss to the back corner (circa 2 x 2 x 4cm.) of one foot, loss to the front apron beneath the stretcher on one chair, cracks to the rear shaped apron beneath the seat of one chair, and overall minor nicks and light scratches to both.

據家具專家胡德生所述(見《故宮博物院藏明清宮廷家具大觀》,卷1,北京,2007年,頁92),交椅連著扶手由圈形椅背順勢下垂,素以舒適見稱,多用於庭院及其他戶外場所,後逐漸衍生出以本品為例之「圈椅」,以作室內傢俬之用。圈椅及交椅另一相異之處,在於前者之直椅腿及硬座椅仍保留交椅設計之影子。明清時期圈椅廣受士大夫鍾愛,故俗稱「太師椅」。
圈椅多為光素無紋,本品靠背上各刻有一如意紋,既不礙作品之簡約設計,又為其增添一份典雅氣息。北京故宮博物院藏圈椅例品,可見於同上,圖版67-76;中國古典家具博物館故藏一作例,1996年9月19日售於紐約佳士得,編號41;Robert and William Drummond收藏一對素圈椅,刊於Gustav Ecke,《Chinese Domestic Furniture》,拉特蘭及東京,1962年,圖版106。一件相關作例曾展於Chinese Huanghuali Furniture From a Private Collection》,Eskenazi,倫敦,2011年,編號10。倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館藏一作例,圖載於Craig Clunas,《Chinese Furniture》,倫敦,1988年,該書頁27亦收錄了出自Harry Garner and Lady Garner爵士伉儷收藏的摺椅。
