of cylindrical form, the exterior finely incised and painted with three shaped cartouches on a diaper ground, each enclosing two dragons leaping from turbulent waves in pursuit of flaming pearls, confronting a stylised shou character issuing from a sprig of lingzhi from stylised mountains, all reserved on a wan diaper ground, the top of the rim incised and gilt with a keyfret band, inscribed to the base with an apocryphal six-character Jiajing mark

The brushpot is in good condition with the exception of very minor re-touching to the red lacquer on the base, hairline vertical crackles encircling the vessel internally and externally at fairly regular 2cm., intervals (four small associated flakes of lacquer), rubbing to the gilt decoration at the rim and age crackles to the black lacquer at the base.
