十七世紀 壽山石雕「伏獅羅漢」像 《古閩周彬尚均氏製》款

the Shoushan stone of a warm cream tone, masterfully carved as a seated lohan with a round serene face, detailed with half-opened eyes, upward-turning lips, and short curly beard, flanked by elongated ears suspending circular earrings, holding with both hands a lion cub playfully pawing one of his earrings, wearing a voluminous robe with gilt-decorated floral hems, the lower garment similarly embellished with wan-diaper motifs, revealing the shoes patterned with prunus blossoms, sitting on a vermilion stepped platform with lotus sprays against waves, the underside similarly adorned with a border of lotus and waves, enclosing the characters reading Gumin Zhou Bin Shangjun shi zhi ('Made by Zhou Bin, Shangjun of Ancient Min') incised and picked out in gilt, the stones with natural dark veins and smooth patina

The figure has been formed rom two separate blocks of stone. The second piece runs across the front of the figure at the join to the right foreleg, the feet and part of the robe. This is not a replacement, but rather original. The right hand of the lohan, as well as the right earring and the left paw of the lion cub, have been restored. The pedestal has a 'C'-shaped section which has been restuck (approx. 5 cm), with some minor losses (some refilled). There are some occasional minor nibbles and bruises. The base also has some surface scratches. Except for some expected wear to the gilt decoration, the overall condition is quite good. The actual colour is slightly darker grey than the catalogue illustration.

羅漢像底鐫《古閩周彬尚均氏製》款，其中古閩乃指今福州。除個別作品，中國雕刻家一般不署款。若有名款與製作地點並見，定為雕刻家得意之作。壽山石雕人像雖非晨星，但此作雕刻細膩，生動傳神，實為珍品之一。

巧匠因材施藝，合二石成此像。羅漢像之右前腿、雙足及袍服前端，由體積較小的石料雕成。其接合處線條流暢、描金一致、風格相同，足證這屬藝匠原有設計。

周彬，字尚均，原籍福建漳州，乃十七世紀壽山石雕名家之一。有關周彬生平及其藝作，可參見 Gerard Tsang 及 Hugh Moss，《文玩萃珍》，香港，1986年，頁84-86。
