Condition

This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals a very small number of superficial pinhead sized accretions and minute and extremely thin and faint scuffs in a small number of places. There is a minute speck of loss to the black end edge of the second largest mushroom element. Examination of the underside reveals a small ⅛ by ¼ inch loss to the top of one curved join of the yellow foot element, and a minute loss to the bottom of the other curved join; and a ¼ inch hairline stable crack near the join of the white, pink and blue foot element.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

拍品資料及來源

"Murakami has indeed become something of a specialist as regards these rather strange and psychedelic mushroom and plant elements between heaven and earth. There is also an allusion to a much more tragic episode of Japanese history to be found in this work: the atomic bombing during World War II. Finally, there is another element present in the Kinoko stools: their extraordinary eyes, inspired by Hyakume, the character with one hundred eyes created by manga cartoonist Shigeru Mizuki."
