此件玉辟邪，靈動逼真，栩栩如生，充分展現高超雕工。藝匠以圓雕技法，立體雕琢出辟邪的長嘴、彎眉以及微突雙眼，作童稚般溫和伏臥姿，彷若好奇之貌，整體造型充滿靈氣，顯現明初玉雕特色。其足掌、鬃毛與獸尾，細膩柔軟，刻劃入微。匠人巧用此石特有之褐斑，為辟邪更添一分淘氣。

可相比較之作例有一玉雕瑞獸，亦為長鼻，曾展於《Chinese Jades from Han to Ch’ing》，Asia House Gallery，紐約，1980年，編號58。另一件則售於紐約佳士得1989年6月2日，編號295。還有一件玉雕，作瑞獸帶稚幼，售於紐約佳士得1989年2月2日，編號224。

Brodie Lodge 為知名 Lodge 火星塞之發明者，他與其妻 Enid 於1940至1960年間，在蘇富比前主管 James Kidell 的協助下，搜羅不少藝術珍品。在 Kidell 的引見下，夫婦二人且認識了 Roger Bluett 及 Sydney Moss，並得以建立其中國陶瓷與工藝品收藏，蓄寶集珍。Lodge 伉儷之收藏，深受中國風格、形式與色彩啟發，被廣泛認為是歐洲私人佳藏之一。1948年，其藏曾於倫敦維多利亞與艾伯特博物館《Exhibition of Oriental Art》特展展出，亦曾出展於東方陶瓷學會。
