Canvas is lined. SURFACE: in good condition, generally; scattered craquelure UNDER ULTRA VIOLET: hard to see through old varnish and dark pigments; there are definitely scattered small spots of inpainting at lower center and upper left and right (in background) and a horizontal, two inch repaired tear to the right of sitter's forehead; aside from this, scattered strokes of pigment fluoresce, but they seem to follow the style and composition of the painting--perhaps artist had added over the original varnish? -- An inscription on the reverse reads as follows: " "My Lady Rhododendron" painted in 1896 by/ Elliott Daingerfield"--perhaps over the original signature before the canvas was lined
