Condition
This work is overall in very good condition. There are very slight craquelures across the surface under close examination. There is a minor wear in the bottom left corner.
There is no evidence of restoration under UV light.

沙耆本名引年，字吉留，祖籍浙江寧波，後由族伯書法家沙孟海取名「耆」。年少時他求學於西湖藝專和中央大學藝術系，師從徐悲鴻；1937年，在徐悲鴻的推薦下，留學比利時國立皇家美術學院，在比利時畫家巴斯天（A. Bastien）的指導下進修，並在1939年以油畫、雕塑、素描三項最優異的成績畢業，獲得「優秀美術金質獎章」，此獎項由布魯塞爾市長親自頒授，為當時藝壇佳話。
沙耆成名甚早，於1940年在布魯塞爾的阿特利亞蒙（Atriome）展覽會上，便已與畢加索（Pablo Picasso）等名家一同參展，引起轟動；1942年，他在畢底格拉地美術館（Petie Galerie）參展時，其作品《吹笛女》更被比利時王后購藏；1946年，他在歐洲遊歷途中，被確診罹患精神分裂症，因而回國治療養病，此後情況雖未見好轉，但他仍堅持創作並力求擺脫束縛，從早年的印象派畫風跨入野獸派、表現主義和抽象主義，風格自成一家。
《瓶花靜物》（拍品編號566）和《靜物》（拍品編號567）是其室內寫生的典型，在風格上傾向印象派畫風，筆法灑脫，構圖嚴謹，色彩柔和諧調。《靜物》使用大片的紅與綠色，一般情況下極難駕馭，容易顯俗，但藝術家控制得宜，使之保持鮮艷悅目；《靜物》的題材在西方常見，但藝術家把描繪對象改為中國民間的魚鮮蔬果，顯得親切自然。兩幅作品大巧不工，展現了藝術家醇厚的藝術功力。
