This work is overall in very good condition except very slight craquelures across the lower part and bottom right corner. There is no evidence of restoration under UV light.

以油彩喚醒中國元素

《12.12.67》的色調十分特殊,其色彩有如琥珀,深邃而略呈透明,儘管構圖隱含山水格局,卻與70年代以後的風格有顯著分別。趙無極雅好高古,藝術追求直指兩宋,早在50年代後期,作品已融入夏商周的青銅器與甲骨文元素,經過60年代對於抽象空間的漫長探索,更開始回溯中國的山水墨趣。體現在《12.12.67》上,畫中造型指涉若山嶽、樹木般的形象,東方氣韻汨汨而生,標誌藝術家的黃金年代。

為抽象貫注山水空間

1967年是趙無極收穫豐碩的一年,他所參加的展覽遍及法國聖保羅迪雲斯、愛爾蘭都柏林、美國匹茲堡和加拿大蒙特利爾;在愛爾蘭的時候,他更與美國抽象表現主義大師紐曼(Barnett Newman)結成好友。紐曼比趙無極年長十六歲,為1940年代「色域繪畫」(color field painting)的創始人物,饒是如此,面對西方大師趙無極在創作表現上亦不惶多讓。「色域繪畫」屬於冷抽象的一支,作品以幾何色塊組成,然而這種創作型式,並非趙無極所追求,相反,此時他進一步回溯中國根源,致力以油彩展現山水氣韻和墨意,而《12.12.67》正是他緊密地周遊列國以後,對故國文化更具自信的總結之作。
