Much like the Modern Masters, Filipino National Artist Arturo Luz's expertise ventured beyond just paintings. He also explores the intimacy as well as intensity, spoken through the language of sculptures. Luz pioneered the regional adoption of architectonic style, using it to communicate his consistent themes of spirituality, harmony, and nature. Anito is a classic embodiment of this legacy - an abstract stick figure in warm, sturdy ipil salvaged hardwood. The sculpture beams a wholesome aesthetic, while emphasizing on basic structural principles, simple positioning, and composition. A hallmark of his palate for new media, geometric minimalism, and colour, Anito captures the new Modern Asian creativity that Arturo Luz personified. Through this unique piece he explored the manipulation of circular and triangular shapes subtly stacked in a vertical structure, emanating a delicate illusion.
