Ms Hatton joined Sotheby’s in 2016 as Vice President and Senior Specialist in the Books & Manuscripts department. She has been responsible for the sale of numerous high-profile and record-setting items, including the bag used by Neil Armstrong to bring back the first samples of the moon ever collected, which sold for $1,812,500 and set the record for an American space artifact; the hidden wartime manuscript of Alan Turing for $1,025,000 which holds the record for any item by Turing; George Minot’s 1935 Nobel prize medal in Medicine for $545,000; the world record for an Apple-1 Computer at $905,000; a Naval M4 Enigma machine at $435,000 and the record price for an Enigma-I machine at $269,000;  the world records for the two most expensive Charles Darwin letters at $197,000 and $125,000; and the flown Flight Plan from the Apollo 13 mission for $275,000 to name but a few. She is a member of the Grolier Club, the Bibliographical Society of America, the History of Science Society, the Caxton Club, and the Rare Book & Manuscript Section of the American Library Association. Ms. Hatton did her undergraduate work in History and French & Linguistics at UCLA, and has an MA in Early Modern European History with a focus on the History of Science. She has attended both the Rare Book School at the University of Virginia and the California Rare Book School, and is a USPAP compliant appraiser. She speaks fluent French and reads Latin, Spanish, and Italian, and appears frequently in both print and broadcast media.
