Temple to photography with Helmut Newton's archive

Housed in a former army officers’ casino, the Museum für Fotografie (Museum of Photography) has become a global destination, and since its opening in 2004, has drawn visitors and photography enthusiasts from all over the world. The museum houses both the Kunstbibliothek’s Collection of Photography and the Helmut Newton Foundation. Established shortly before the provocative photographer’s death in 2004, the Helmut Newton Foundation has for many years presented its widely successful permanent exhibition, “Helmut Newton’s Private Property,” a rare look at Newton’s life through his personal belongings. The foundation also organizes individual exhibitions of Newton’s work, that of his wife, the photographer Alice Springs, and his contemporaries. On the second floor, the Kunstbibliothek’s Collection of Photography presents a diverse series of rotating exhibitions drawn from its vast collection, which ranges from the medium’s earliest days to present-day explorations.
