Wonders by Belgium’s foremost surrealist
The Musée Magritte Museum is dedicated to the renowned Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte. Opened in 2009, the museum evolved from the holding of the Musée Modern Museum and now houses the largest Magritte collection in the world, with more than 200 artworks. It includes a vast array of paintings, gouaches, drawings, sculpture and painted objects in addition to billboards, musical scores, photographs and films directed by Magritte himself. The collection covers the diverse phases of Magritte’s career, from his early experiments with cubism and futurism to his later surrealist masterpieces, including “The Empire of Light,” “The Treachery of Images” and “The Lovers.” The Musée Magritte Museum is part of the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique.
