Dynamic cultural arena for Latin American art
This private museum was founded by Argentine real estate developer and businessman Eduardo F. Costantini in 2001 to showcase modern and contemporary art from Latin America. Artists from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Uruguay and Venezuela, among other countries, are represented in the museum’s collection of more than 400 artworks. Its semi-permanent exhibition, “Third Eye,” brings together 220 of these works from the MALBA collection alongside highlights from Costantini’s own personal collection. The show includes masterpieces by Tarsila do Amaral, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Maria Martins and Jorge de la Vega, and it regularly changes with new acquisitions made by Costantini such as Frida Kahlo's “Diego and I” (1949) and Leonora Carrington’s “Les Distractions de Dagobert” (1945), purchased from Sotheby’s in 2021 and 2024 respectively. Housed in a polyhedral deconstructivist building by Atelman-Fourcade-Tapia, MALBA hosts a program of temporary exhibitions, often in partnership with other institutions, and fosters cultural and educational programs for a wide audience.
