Denver Art Museum

Denver, Colorado | United States

Encyclopedic collection rich in Indigenous arts

Founded in 1893 by an association of local artists, the Denver Art Museum is one of the largest art museums between Chicago and the west coast. Its collection includes more than 70,000 works of art. In 1971 the museum moved into the only completed building in North America by the influential Italian architect Gio Ponti, which was joined in 2006 by Daniel Libeskind’s visionary titanium-clad extension inspired by the craggy forms of the Rockies. Highlights within include pre-eminent holdings of North America Indigenous arts; modern and contemporary design; African, Asian, Latin American, Oceanic and European art; and work relating to the American West. Recent milestones include the offering of free admission for all under-18s and a significant renovation completed in 2021.
