Gaitonde’s monumental ‘Untitled, 1960’ was originally created for the the Air India building in Mumbai. When the commission fell through, renowned patron and artist Bal Chhabda purchased the impressive work and it became the centerpiece of his celebrated collection. The painting is a key highlight of Sotheby’s Modern and Contemporary South Asian Art auction on 15 March in New York.
