Sotheby’s to Stage its First Auction of Modern and Contemporary Art in Singapore

Singapore | 28 August 2022

Sotheby’s sale of Modern and Contemporary Art in Singapore marks the first time in 15 years that Sotheby’s will stage a live auction in the island-city. The return of auctions to Singapore marks Sotheby’s response to the growth of the collector base in the region and our commitment to an active on-the-ground presence across the APAC region.

Showcasing a tightly curated selection of works by Southeast Asian masters alongside established and emerging artists from around the world. The variety of works encompasses the myriad styles that reflect the cosmopolitan nature of Singaporean society, a harmony of diverse aesthetic approaches and influences. Modern highlights of the auction include Hendra Gunawan’s Fish Market on the Beach, Georgette Chen’s Boats and Shophouses and Chu Teh-Chun’s Seme la lumiere (Spreads Light). The auction will also feature some Contemporary names, including several fresh-to-the-market works by Rafa Macarron, Javier Calleja and Christine Ay Tjoe.
