Abstract Expressionism dominated in the sales room as Mark Rothko's seminal masterpiece No. 1 (Royal Red and Blue) led Sotheby's contemporary art evening auction on 13 November 2012, achieving $75.1 million, bringing the sale total to $375,149,000 overall, the highest auction total in Sotheby's history.
