Louise Bourgeois and the Architecture of Memory

20 - 30 & 28 JULY 2020 | LONDON

Louise Bourgeois is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. In this video, discover how Bourgeois’ visual practice drew on childhood memories and psychological trauma. Spanning 41 years of the artist’s eight-decade career, this astoundingly complete group of works was amassed by European collectors. Versions of Bourgeois’ emblematic sculptures ‘Torso, Self-Portrait’, ‘Fée Couturière’ and ‘Arched Figure’ will be offered in our upcoming cross-category ‘Rembrant to Richter’ Evening Sale (28 July | London). Two further works, ‘Good Mother’ and ‘Bad Mother’ will then be offered in our Contemporary Art Day Sale (20 – 30 July). Click here to watch more Sotheby’s videos.
