Listen to Charlie Siem Play Brahms’ Violin Concerto on the Joachim-Ma Stradivarius

New York | 7 February

I n this exclusive performance, one of today's foremost young violinists, Charlie Siem, brings Brahms’ iconic Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 77 to life on the historic Joachim-Ma Stradivarius, crafted in 1714 by the legendary Antonio Stradivari during his celebrated "Golden Period." Estimated at $12 million to $18 million, with proceeds benefiting student scholarships at the New England Conservatory, Sotheby's is honored to bring this masterpiece of sound to auction.

The Joachim-Ma Stradivarius has an extraordinary history, once owned by Hungarian virtuoso Joseph Joachim, a close collaborator of Brahms himself. Joachim likely performed on this very instrument during the 1879 premiere of Brahms’ concerto. The violin’s legacy continued through Chinese violinist Si-Hon Ma, who played the instrument for over four decades, ensuring its place in music history.

Join us for the live auction of the Joachim-Ma Stradivarius, taking place on 7 February at 11:15 EST, as a part of Masters Week in New York.
