Jean Dubuffet and Lucio Fontana: Two European masters of twentieth-century art, rarely associated.

PARIS | 18 OCTOBER 2024

Presented in partnership with Celine, 6 masterpieces by Jean Dubuffet and Lucio Fontana from an exceptional collection, estimated at between 11 and 15 million euros, will be offered at auction in our inaugural sales in October 2024.

“Art should always make you laugh a little. And scare you a bit. Everything but bore.”
- Jean Dubuffet

“I'm a sculptor, not a potter. I've never turned a plate on a wheel or painted a vase... critics say “ceramicist ”, I say “Sculptor” - Lucio Fontana

The collection includes an extraordinary 1947 portrait of Francis Ponge- Jubilation, estimated at 5 to 7 million euros, last exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in 2001 and which gives its name to the collection.

Drawn from the world's most prestigious collections and galleries, this ensemble covers the first four decades of Dubuffet's creative career, in dialogue with two of Fontana's rarest sculptures.

This auction will take place in Paris on October 18, 2024.
