How a rostrum works on an ancient Roman Navy vessel

The Roman Navy fleet was made of up quadremes or triremes which were powered by rowers in tiers of either two or three. The main technique of naval warfare involved the vessels ramming the enemy with their large brass ramming heads called rostrums.
