By the 1980s, Chinese-French artist Chu Teh-Chun was a recognized master in the international art scene. Vent debout (Lot 1022) was painted in 1989, at the peak of Chu’s creative powers. The work is 3.6 meters long and 2 meters high, the largest diptych that he painted prior to 1990. The painting reflects his boldness of vision and his mastery of large canvases.
Chu created an abstract world of atmospheric mountains and rivers, showing the breadth and profoundness of his brushwork. Vent debout is truly one of Chu’s most stunning large canvases.
