A Private Look at Sotheby’s Contemporary African Art Exhibition

ONLINE | 27 - 31 MARCH

Our galleries are now closed to the public but the building has never looked more beautiful thanks to our collaboration with collector JJ Martin, founder of fashion brand La DoubleJ, and so we wanted to share some of that beauty and creativity with you. In this video, specialist Hannah O’Leary gives you a private look at our galleries and introduces some of the highlights from our upcoming Modern and Contemporary African Art sale (27 - 31 March | Online). We’re delighted to present a group of masterworks from the most sought after artists from across the African continent, including Ben Enwonwu, Irma Stern, El Anatsui and Yinka Shonibare. The exhibition in our galleries has been further enhanced by an imaginative collaboration, inspired by the sophistication, colour and vintage patterns of collector JJ Martin, founder of fashion brand La DoubleJ. Owing to the instructions issued by the British Government on Monday 23rd March, tomorrow’s sale of Modern & Contemporary African art will now take the form of an online sale, running from 27th to 31st March. Details of how to bid online are available here, but should you require further assistance, please do contact Fleur Manning (Fleur.Manning@sothebys.com). Similarly, Hannah O’Leary, head of department, remains at your disposal should you wish to discuss any of the material to be offered. Hannah can be contacted at Hannah.Oleary@sothebys.com. With many thanks for your understanding.
