From Van Gogh to Basquiat and Beyond at Sotheby’s New York

28 October | New York

In 1890, Vincent van Gogh writes “Auvers is really beautiful, really profoundly beautiful.” He paints 70 canvases in 70 days. In the 1950s, the beating heart of the art world shifts to New York, and Mark Rothko begins to paint his legendary, monumental canvases. And in 1986, Enrico Navarra recognizes a Brooklyn-born painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat as the most brilliant artist of his time. Decades on, a new chapter beckons at Sotheby’s New York – a collection of masterpieces come together for the Contemporary Art Evening Auction and the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale (28 October 2020, New York).
