This May, Sotheby’s will offer The Collection of Barbara and Daniel Fendrick across a dedicated single-owner sequence in the Contemporary Day Auction. Anchored by exceptional examples by Helen Frankenthaler, Sam Gilliam, Robert Motherwell, and Jasper Johns, this collection presents an incredible grouping of works that capture an all-encompassing vision and curatorial spirit. Together, the collection reflects decades of a life and union spent championing artists, their vision, and the objects of stunning beauty which result.
The Collection of Barbara and Daniel Fendrick is a poignant reflection of an incredibly keen and discerning eye for quality coupled with a deep passion for the arts. The collection presents a wonderful and diverse selection of objects across medium and genre by artists whose careers Barbara and Daniel championed in Washington D.C. At the heart of the collection is the exceptional Helen Frankenthaler painting, Degas at 45, an extraordinary large-scale example of the artist's mastery of color from her most pivotal decade, the 1970s.
The Contemporary Day Auction, presented in partnership with Celine, will take place in New York on 14 May 2024.
