For 50 years, Sotheby’s Netherlands has been synonymous with historic beauty and legacy – offering works ranging from Old Masters to Contemporary Art.
To mark the anniversary, Sotheby’s invited Jacob van Rijs, co-founder and principal architect of MVRDV, to speak about how art has shaped him and how it still plays a vital role in his practice.
Van Rijs combines daring concepts with a humanistic and user-friendly approach. For 25 years, he has led a wide variety of projects: from cultural and civic buildings to transformations, and from residential buildings to social housing and interiors.
For MVRDV, architecture is about people. A good design is one that allows people to feel happy, to be comfortable, to achieve their goals, and to live together well. But good designs should also be brave.
This film marks a new venture between MVRDV and Sotheby’s. In the following weeks, Sotheby’s will be thrilled to reveal his new project for one of our global gallery spaces.
