W e proudly present our new Asia flagship – Sotheby's Maison. Located at the beating heart of Hong Kong, the Maison offers a portal to a world of boundless inspiration and discovery – a journey from pre-history to present day, across more than 20 categories spanning all continents and artistic endeavours.
From 14 through 25 September, step into the ground floor to experience Transience, exploring the fleeting moment where beauty and decay, serenity and chaos, and enlightenment and ignorance intertwine. At the heart is Chang Dai-chien’s (Zhang Daqian) monumental masterpiece, The Giant Lotuses. Spanning eight metres wide, the glorious splashed ink painting is not only the most ambitious work by the great master of Modern Chinese painting, but the very work that catapulted him to international fame in 1961. After six decades, it is finally seen in Asia for the first time.
Also on view are a specially curated selection of scholar’s rocks from Stillness in Clouds: The Jiansongge Collection and highlights from the Poon Family Collection, including Preface to the Poems Composed at the Orchid Pavilion, which is universally appreciated as a crowning achievement in calligraphy. The scroll and other works in this unique generational collection of art spanning a thousand years of history tells the powerful story of the continuum of Confucian thought and tradition.
In the Sanctum, Ice: Two Masterworks on Loan from the Long Museum brings together Gerhard Richter’s Eisberg, and an exceptionally rare Ru ware brushwasher made in the late 11th to early 12th century in China.

The first floor features our concept store, a uniquely curated retail experience exploring an array of cross-category art, luxury and collectibles spanning 80 million years of history and offered for instant purchase.

T he Another World playlist surfs between a whole range of emotions - from contemplation to anxiety, anger to sensuality, joy to otherworldliness. High notes include David Lynch, trip-hop, minimalism, Gainsbourg/Birkin, soul and hip-hop, with undertones of German industrial, alternative and New Wave. The contrast of styles matches the sprawling array of material that we are presenting at the Maison, from fine Old Master drawings to horror movie posters, contemporary design to rare books, dinosaur fossils to gothic sculpture, African contemporary design to Japanese armours.
