I
t’s the dawn of a new era in the NBA. By the end of the first round of the 2024 Playoffs, basketball titans LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant were out and the next generation of stars had established themselves. They didn’t disappoint. The Dallas Mavericks’ Luka Dončić made his first appearance in the NBA Finals, while the Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown took home trophies for both the Conference Finals and Finals MVP – in the process officially making the Boston Celtics the most decorated franchise in NBA history. Prior to the Finals, we witnessed Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards reflect brilliance akin to a young Michael Jordan, Oklahoma City Thunder’s Shai-Gilgeous Alexander continue his silky, MVP-like form into the postseason and Jaylen Brunson valiantly lead an injured New York Knicks on a compelling playoff run.
As part of Sotheby’s partnership with the NBA – which brings game-worn jerseys straight from the court to the auction block – this July the momentous new chapter in NBA history is getting its due with three auctions (an online sale 2-9 July, a live auction on 30 July and a second online sale 16 July-1 August) featuring individual game-worn jerseys from some of the most significant games and series from the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Above are just a handful of the remarkable jerseys headed to auction in the season’s first sale.
