  This demi-parure, comprising a pair of ear clips and a bracelet , is a very good illustration of 1940s jewels. The use of citrines together with diamonds, the floral motif, and combination of colours is a testimony to the taste of the period. During World War II, the attention of major Jewellery Houses turned to semiprecious gemstones, due to the increasing scarcity of South African diamonds and Siamese and Burmese rubies and sapphires.

  Weighing more than 55 carats together, the two emerald drops are impressive by their size and have a nice matching green strong colour. Originating from Zambia, the stones are less common than the emeralds from Colombia.   Sapphire, ruby and diamond brooch, Cartier, circa 1960. Estimate £20,000–30,000

  This amusing gem-set cockatoo is a piece for collectors. Set with carved sapphires, highlighted with brilliant-cut diamonds and blue enamel, it combines the ‘tutti frutti’ common use of carved gemstones, together with the menagerie motifs which became increasingly popular in the 1950s and 1960s in the Jewellery Houses.

  Bangle, Pol Bury. Estimate £8,000–10,000

  Pol Bury (1922-2005) was a Belgian sculptor and one can easily see the sculptural appearance of this gold bangle . The moving spheres incorporated into the design of the present bangle were a common motif throughout his work, showing the continuity between his approaches to sculpture and jewellery, and reflecting his interest in themes of gravity and motion.
