This summer’s Contemporary Art Online sale brings together a selection of important photographic works from the 1980s to the 2000s that collectively capture the boundary-pushing spirit of the times. There is a strongly hyperreal flavour to these works: diCorcia's staged, dreamlike scenes suggest a connecting narrative which is absent; Tillmans' portraits of emblematic figures blur the lines between reality and fiction; Crewdson's surreal cinematic tableaux of American homes bear a threatening sense of uncertainty, while Sam Taylor-Johnson and Henry Bond's tender portrait challenges established gender roles. Foremost among the selection are works by Richard Prince and Cindy Sherman, icons of the Pictures Generation. Together, they represent more than two decades of activism and challenge to established modes of perception and their representation in art. Click the image above to launch the slideshow.
