The Impressionist & Modern Art Evening and Surrealist Art Evening sales on 28 February in London reached a combined total of £136,001,500, led by an exceptional Picasso portrait. Femme au béret et à la robe quadrillée (Marie-Thérèse Walter) (1937) sold for £49,827,000. making it the highest auction price for any painting ever sold in Europe in pounds. Among the other top lots were Picasso's Le matador (£16,521,500), André Derain's Bateaux à Collioure (£10,876,500) and Umberto Boccioni's Testa + luce + ambiente (£9,070,100) while Lustre avec femme, homme et oiseau, a magnificent chandelier by Alberto Giacometti, sold for £7,602,400. Meanwhile, the Surrealist Art Evening Sale was led by Salvador Dalí's magnificent Maison pour érotomane, which sold for £3,538,000. Click ahead to see highlights from the results.
