F ollowing the trend of recent museum exhibitions, auctions and gallery shows, the third edition of Tefaf New York Spring (3–7 May) showcases strong female artists in addition to other museum-quality works of Modern and post-war art and design, antiquities, ethnographic art and jewelry. Hauser & Wirth led a focused presentation of Maria Lassnig’ s unnerving, extremely personal figurative paintings in the largest grouping ever seen in New York. Luxembourg & Dayan, meanwhile, exhibited Rudolf Schlichter’s striking Portrait of Karola Nehers, a famous German actress and singer, alongside other portraits by Otto Dix, Pablo Picasso, and Ludwig Meidner in one of the Park Avenue Armory’s historic rooms. Part of two annual US offshoots of the prestigious European fair, Tefaf New York Spring once again transformed the wide expanse of the Wade Thomson Drill Hall for more than 90 exhibitors whose works on show must first pass the fair's rigorous vetting committee of experts.
