Works by the leading lights of contemporary British art will be offered in the Contemporary Art Day Sale to enable the Aortic Centre Trust to continue its vital work in the field of live-saving research and treatment. Artists, galleries and art world figures such as Keith Tyson, Grayson Perry and Thaddaeus Ropac have donated works on the theme, as well as art with a more broad focus from Anthony d'Offay, Jeff Koons, Anish Kapoor and Sarah Lucas. Consultant Cardiac Surgeon Jullien Gaer, who leads the charity, said: “There is a reason why those of us who work in the field refer to the aorta as the orphan organ: most people don't know where their aorta is nor what it does and yet it is the main artery of the body through which, quite literally, all of life flows."
