On the evening of 1 June, guests packed Fat Free Art gallery in the Lower East Side for the unveiling of the Street Masters, a special exhibition of thirteen contemporary artists’ inventive reinterpretations of Old Master Paintings chosen from Sotheby’s upcoming 8 June Master Paintings sale in New York. Edgy downtown grit met with hints of uptown sophistication as guests mingled among the 15th through 17th century artworks hung alongside the street-art-styled reinventions. Artists including Mariana Oushiro, Lady Aiko, Mason Storm, Ygal Gabay, Tomaso Albertini and Jongmin Kim were on hand to discuss their works and the influence of these exquisite Old Master paintings.
