Drawing Inspiration: Summer Sketching with Sotheby's Master Paintings

Launch Slideshow

On 3 June, a sunny Saturday, artists, students, children and even pets opted to say indoors for a relaxing afternoon of sketching. As part of Sotheby’s Master Paintings sale, guests of all skill levels were welcomed to our New York galleries where they were giving complimentary notebooks by Moleskine, who also hosted the event. “Every time I come to Sotheby’s, it’s nice to see works that I wouldn’t see at other museums and galleries but in a museum-like setting with amazing lighting,” sketch artist Guno Park said during the event. “It’s also nice to be given a sketchbook and the chance to sit so close to the works.” Joining Park were some of his students, who practiced animal drawing. “Copying from Old Masters is a big part of the curriculum,” Park explained. “Now, I try to take compositional cues from the artists and loosely base my drawings on them so they become my own version of the Masters.” Others artists in attendance were Marcelo Daldoce, Danica Lundy, Nicolas Sanchez and Dina Brodsky.
