T his month marks the return of Sotheby’s Hong Kong's livestream auctions, a state-of-the-art format that creates the thrill of the live auction through seamless video streams in one high-definition experience. Participate in Sotheby's livestream marquee evening sales: ICONS: Masterpieces from across time and space on 18 April 6 pm, followed immediately after by Beyond Legends: Modern Art Evening Sale at 6:30 pm, as well as the Contemporary Evening Sale on 19 April 7 pm.
ICONS presents masterpieces from the vast sweep of art history. From bodhisattva to matador, from artist to muse, the auction celebrates the artistic expressions of the human form throughout the ages – with five masterworks by iconic artists from the East and the West, including Pablo Picasso, Sanyu, Zhang Daqian and Alberto Giacometti.
Beyond Legends: Modern Art Evening Sale promises to be a most highly-anticipated event to watch, featuring a lineup of Asian, European, modern and post-war masterpieces by Wu Guanzhong, Lin Fengmian, Chu Teh-Chun, Zao Wou-Ki, Lalan, Chen Ting-Shih, Richard Lin, Hsiao Chin, Li Huayi and other Asian masters, as well as European masters such as Georges Mathieu, Bernard Buffet and Pierre Soulages.
Contemporary Evening Sale presents an exceptional selection of Western and Asian masterworks of unprecedented calibre and diversity. Taking centre stage will be Clyfford Still’s PH-568 from 1965, a majestic late work from the artist’s Maryland period, as well as three works by Yoshitomo Nara. Joining Still’s PH-568 is a stellar line-up of works by Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, Gerhard Richter and Adrian Ghenie. Asian highlights include a robust assemblage of early works by major Chinese Contemporary artists including Zeng Fanzhi, Zhang Xiaogang, Liu Xiaodong and Fang Lijun. These seminal works all hail from the early 1990s period, which marks the nascence of Chinese Contemporary Art onto the international art stage.
